Warrior Strikes

During their career as warriors, the Dakota men increased their military rank through different "coupes": actions that demonstrated their courage in battle.

Each category allowed the warrior to wear different feathers, which could be cut, cut or dyed according to the type of blow. These are some examples.

1. The red-tinted pen symbolizes the wound suffered on the battlefield.

2. The red pen indicates the death of an opponent.

3. A pen with a punch ripped off the scalp and cut off the neck of an enemy.

4. An enemy cut off his neck with a pen with the tip cut off.

5. He struck four times with a pen with the edge closed.

6. The pen was partially furry and gave five beats.
